Quarantine life. We seek some semblance of normalcy, but nothing is normal. Our new shut-in lifestyle has upended our daily routines, environments and community circles. It’s no wonder we feel a bit out of whack. A bit of self reflection can help you find balance in these tumultuous times.
Here are a few journal prompts to help you live mindfully, honor and move through emotions and proactively care for your newly emerging needs:
Honor Your Feelings
What losses, large or small, are you grieving? Explore as little or much as you’d like on paper.
What sparked a sense of agitation for you lately? Explore a deeper cause below the trigger event.
Look beneath anger and frustration for fear and hurt. Give written acknowledgement to these deeper feelings and any beliefs that fuel them.
Let Go
Explore the impermanence of your current situation.
To what items, expectations or experiences are you mentally clinging or grasping? Explore why.
What is out of your control? Have you fully released the attempt to control? Explore surrendering these concerns to a higher power.
Immerse in Gratitude
What do you most look forward to experiencing when it is safe to do so?
What do you cherish most in life?
How is the Earth supporting you right now?
What acts of kindness have you witnessed or experienced during this time?
Nurture Good Health
Name three things you can do to nurture yourself today. What benefits would these bring to you?
Do you crave interaction or solitude? Both? How can you mindfully, creatively make that happen today?
How can or are you proactively supporting your personal health?
Take a look at your expectations for yourself. Are they realistic? Helpful? Adapted for these times?
Seek Wisdom
What have you discovered about yourself during this time? About others?
What have you learned is truly important to you during this time? Any surprises? What have you not missed as much as you thought you might?
Freewheel It
I wanted to note, these prompts are simply a few pathways you can explore. When your world is shifting all at once, it be extremely cathartic and revealing to simply open a blank page and brain dump.
Let your stream of consciousness flow. Set a timer and write down whatever is on your mind. Don’t let the pen stop moving. This is a wonderful morning practice for digging a bit deeper, before the business of the day and little fires everywhere take over.
May you find balance and resilience on the page.
